What this does and does not include
Estimated operating contribution equals recorded sales minus cost of products sold, refunds, processing charges, commissions, allocated route mileage and labor, plus other direct expenses entered above.
Restocking purchases are not necessarily sold stock; stock remains in the machine until purchased. Keep receipts and stock counts separate. Financing, depreciation, taxes and central overhead may be outside this simplified calculation.
Compare several periods and record the same cost categories each month. Large travel costs can make a distant machine less attractive even when it sells more.
